Chhaygaon College was established on 6th September 1974 at Chhaygaon of Kamrup District, Assam, to promote higher education and install leadership quality among the human resources to accelerate the nation-building process. The college is situated on the bank of the ever-flowing Kalahi River, beside National Highway No. 17 at a distance of about 35 kilometres from the L.G.B. International Airport, approximately in a distance 40 kilometres from Gauhati University. The College stands on vast sprawling land, amidst lush greenery and shady trees. Chhaygaon is a place that can boost with excessive pride in its ethnic and rich cultural diversities and also claims of rich heritage to which 'Chandika Devalaya' and, Chanda Merghar stand as silent testimonials. Chhaygaon College has been a trusted name for 50 years and is a premier institution that provides a unique band of holistic education to nearly 4000 students who hail from in and around the greater Chhaygaon area- a homeland of heterogeneous racial elements. The institution has been assessed thrice and accredited ‘B’ Grade by NAAC in November 2004, 2015, and 2023 respectively, and also recognized by the UGC 2 (F) and 12 (B) of the UGC Act, 1956.

The Assamese Department provides a P.G. programme affiliated with Gauhati University. Moreover, the college provides career-oriented programmes like PGDCA for the benefit of young learners. The college also offers UG and PG courses under the banner of KKHSOU and IDOL. Besides the regular courses, the college offers vocational subjects like Information Technology, Computer application for self-employment, and entrepreneurship development. The faculty and management body of the college leaves no stone unturned to flourish the potential of each of the students. For the last 50 years, the institution has been successful in promoting an academic environment in a large region.
